Indian fishermen recently caught a bizarre fish weighing nearly 800 kg, fetching over 600 million VND, creating a buzz throughout the fish market and attracting many tourists.
Fishermen in the Digha region of West Bengal, India, experienced a memorable day when they caught a giant fish weighing nearly 800 kg. This fish, never seen before, surprised many and drew large crowds of locals and tourists eager to witness it.
The Chilshankar fish, with its unusual shape resembling a “flying ship,” left the fishermen exhilarated. According to Ajirul, a local fisherman, this is the first time they have encountered such a large and valuable fish.
He stated: “Chilshankar fish has a market value of up to 2100 Rupees per kg, and with a weight of 800 kg, its selling price reached over 20 lakh Rupees, which is more than 600 million VND.”
Fishermen amazed by the 800kg Chilshankar fish, sold immediately for 600 million VND.
The process of transporting this giant fish also faced numerous challenges. Due to its massive weight, the fishermen had to use ropes to drag the fish ashore and then load it onto a truck for transport to the Mohana Fishermen’s Association. There, the fish was auctioned and sold at a high price in the wholesale market.
The fish holds not only economic value but also potential medicinal uses. According to the fishermen, the scales and oil from the Chilshankar fish are often used in medicine, while the flesh can be prepared into delicious dishes, making it a local specialty.
News about the capture of the Chilshankar fish spread quickly, prompting many curious onlookers to come and witness this special moment. This event has not only brought joy to the fishermen but also serves as a highlight to attract local tourism, providing them with significant income.
