Results from a research study published in the latest issue of the medical journal “Clinical Nutrition” (USA) indicate that daily consumption of potassium-enriched salt may reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and stroke.
After three years of research involving approximately 2,000 participants, experts at the Taiwan Institute of Biomedical Sciences reported that a type of salt that combines sodium chloride (common salt) with potassium chloride helps the body absorb less sodium while increasing potassium intake, potentially reducing the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases by 40%.
Previous studies have also indicated that a diet rich in potassium-containing foods such as raisins, bananas, watermelon, beans, and potatoes aids in maintaining healthy blood pressure.
Experts state that consuming potassium-enriched salt is a convenient and quick way to boost potassium levels in the body.
However, they also advise that patients with kidney issues should exercise caution when using potassium-enriched salt and should ideally have their potassium levels monitored regularly.
