After more than 2 years of research and experimentation, Agifish An Giang Company has successfully produced biodiesel from catfish fat, featuring superior properties compared to traditional petroleum diesel, with lower emissions and non-toxic characteristics.
This biodiesel has been tested by Center 3 of the General Department of Standards, Metrology, and Quality, meeting all specifications for diesel engine fuel, providing high economic efficiency for users. This success will contribute to enhancing the value of catfish in the Mekong Delta region.
In recent years, the Mekong Delta has produced over 250,000 tons of catfish for food processing and export annually, with 30,000 tons of fat. Most of this fish fat is sold to animal feed companies at very low prices.
With the idea of using fish fat as an alternative fuel source to partially replace petroleum, Agifish began researching the production of biodiesel from catfish fat in January 2004, and completed the project in December 2005. Since January 2006, the product has been used by many establishments operating diesel engines.
Brick factories in Long Xuyen and Chau Thanh District have reported that using biodiesel not only reduces environmental pollution and protects health but also saves nearly 50,000 VND per 1,000 bricks compared to using conventional diesel.
