Da Nang: Relocation of Poultry from the City Center
Starting today (November 12), local authorities in the urban areas of Da Nang, including Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Son Tra districts, and the wards of My An (Ngu Hanh Son district), Hoa Tho Dong, Khu Trung (Cam Le district); Hoa Minh, Hoa Khanh Bac, Hoa Khanh Nam, Hoa Hiep Nam (Lien Chieu district) must urgently relocate all poultry currently being raised in these areas.
All poultry will be moved to centralized farms in Hoa Tien and Hoa Nhon communes in Hoa Vang district. This relocation must be completed before November 15.

Quang Binh: A Patient Dies Rapidly Due to Lung Disease
The Quang Binh Epidemiology Center has collected samples from patient N.T.N. (residing in Dong My ward, Dong Hoi City) to test for the H5N1 avian influenza virus. This patient died very quickly at VN – Cuba Dong Hoi Hospital. According to the hospital doctors, the patient was admitted for emergency care at 10 PM on November 10, 2005, in a state of severe lobar pneumonia, acute respiratory distress, coughing, and respiratory failure level 2, passing away at 10:20 AM on November 11.

Ho Chi Minh City: Poultry Purchased at 8,000 VND/kg
* Establishment of 6 Avian Influenza Inspection Teams
Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan, has just signed a directive on implementing measures to prevent avian influenza. Accordingly, the city directs the veterinary sector to cooperate with poultry slaughter and processing companies to immediately commence the purchase of poultry at a price of 8,000 VND/kg for both meat and laying hens. The city’s People’s Committee will support poultry farmers with 3,000 VND per meat chicken and 5,000 VND per laying hen.
According to the directive from Deputy Chairman Nguyen Thien Nhan, small licensed slaughterhouses in Ward 5, District 8, and Binh Hung Commune, Binh Chanh District must cease operations by November 15. The Animal Health Department and the Health Department will present a list of licensed small slaughterhouses in other districts that pose a high risk of disease transmission to the community, for the city to decide on their cessation of operations starting November 15. By no later than December 15, the city will announce support policies for livestock households.
* On November 11, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City decided to establish six inspection teams to prevent avian influenza in various districts.
