Thanks to the timely support from the Quang Nam Children’s Protection Fund, 320 underprivileged children suffering from heart disease have undergone surgeries free of charge, alleviating the life-threatening risks they faced.
Most of these children with congenital heart defects come from impoverished backgrounds and lack financial means. Nguyen Hoang Thien, a child from Hoa Thuan Ward in Tam Ky City, is just one of over 300 children with congenital heart disease who received timely surgical assistance from the Quang Nam Children’s Protection Fund. Without this support, the child’s parents, who are farmers, would not have known how to manage the costs for their child’s treatment.
For cases of congenital heart disease, the Quang Nam Children’s Protection Fund has effectively mobilized resources from non-governmental organizations and charitable groups. Importantly, they have ensured that no child with a heart condition from a challenging background is overlooked. Among the 320 cases that received free heart surgeries, some incurred costs up to 60 million VND, while the average cost per case ranged between 20 to 46 million VND.
