On the afternoon of August 15, Mr. Vo Thanh Long (39 years old, from Ward 17, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) discovered a bird with a long neck, unclear where it came from, standing on his family’s roof. When Mr. Long touched it with a stick, the bird just spread its wings and did not fly away. Afterwards, Mr. Long and his family used a ladder to climb onto the roof to catch the bird.

“When I caught it from the roof, I noticed that this bird has feet similar to webbed feet. After researching online, I found out that this is an Anhinga, a rare animal listed in the Red Book. I want to hand over the bird to the authorities so it can return to nature,” Mr. Long said.
On the afternoon of August 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department received the Anhinga bird voluntarily handed over by Mr. Long to take it to the Wildlife Rescue Station in Cu Chi for rehabilitation and health care before releasing it back into the wild.
The forest protection force determined that the Anhinga bird weighed approximately 0.4 kg, with the scientific name Anhinga melanogaster, classified as Group IB in the list of endangered and rare forest animals.
