Lenticular clouds at sunset over Inverness, Scotland
Recently, photographer Cloudymamma captured this stunning footage of lenticular clouds at sunset over Inverness, Scotland. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the lenticular clouds became truly spectacular, further enhanced by their transformation into shades of orange and yellow.
Lenticular Clouds are quite rare, typically appearing along mountain ranges and in sheltered areas on the leeward side of hills, especially when a stable flow of dry and humid air moves across a mountain or hill. At this point, the mountain or hill acts as a barrier, disrupting the airflow and creating a swirling motion. This sets the stage for the formation of lenticular clouds.
