On December 9, Mr. Le Van Dung, Director of the Ca Mau Cape National Park, announced that the fish owl (also known as the Eastern Fish Owl) has returned to the park.
This is a rare bird species found in Ca Mau Cape National Park. Currently, there are at least four individuals recorded in the park, including a pair of adults and two chicks.

Mr. Dung recounted that nearly a year ago, while inspecting the forest with colleagues, heavy rain caused the fish owl chicks to fall from their nest into the mud.
“At that time, I felt sorry for them, so I took the chicks home and placed them in a nurturing cage. After a few days, I noticed that the parents were bringing food to the chicks every night.
After about three weeks, when the chicks learned to fly, I released them back into the wild, and the parents came to help them practice flying in the forest,” Mr. Dung recalled as he witnessed the event.
According to Mr. Dung, after nearly a year, those chicks returned to the area near the administrative center of Ca Mau Cape National Park, where he once nurtured them and personally fed them fish.
“This species of fish owl is very intelligent, always living close to its birthplace, and only leaves when the forest is destroyed,” Mr. Dung shared.
Mr. Le Van Dung added that due to the rarity of this bird, it has attracted many ornithologists, with some traveling from Hanoi to Ca Mau multiple times during the breeding season for research and photography.
