Elderly people should exercise at least 3 times a week (Photo: Fotosearch) |
A study published in the World Medical Chronicles on January 17 indicates that elderly individuals who exercise at least three times a week have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The research, conducted from 1994 to 2003, monitored 1,740 individuals aged 65 and older. The results revealed that 158 participants exhibited signs of dementia, with 67% of them reporting that they did not exercise regularly. Researchers argue that exercising may reduce the level of amyloid degeneration in the brain, a specific type of damage associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Women who run should wear sports bras

Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova has led a campaign advising women to wear sports bras |
Millions of women who run may experience breast sagging if they do not wear appropriate bras, according to researchers at the University of Portsmouth, UK.
Scientists found that when women run, their breasts move in a three-dimensional figure-eight pattern, and this uncontrolled motion stretches delicate tissues and ligaments. The study indicates that when a woman runs 1 kilometer, her breasts bounce approximately 84 meters. In other words, each breast moves independently from the body by an average of 9 centimeters with each running step.
With an average breast weight of 200 to 300 grams, this movement exerts significant pressure on the fragile underlying structure of the breasts — the epidermis and connective tissue (Cooper’s ligaments). The research team noted that the movements of the breasts can lead to temporary pain and discomfort. However, it may also cause ongoing pressure on Cooper’s ligaments, resulting in irreversible sagging. They stated that wearing a regular T-shirt bra reduces breast bounce by approximately 38%, but wearing a sports bra can reduce this movement by up to 78%.
