This system, when connected to the current radio communication network, will revolutionize the taxi business. All information regarding routes, vehicle speed, pickup and drop-off times, etc., will be updated and stored at the operations center.
The system, named VECOM G.Track, was researched and developed by Vinh Hiển E-commerce Company in Ho Chi Minh City. According to Mr. Tạ Công Thuận, the company director, this GPS-based tracking system has been widely used worldwide but has never been implemented in Vietnam. While current taxi centers only allow drivers to communicate via two-way radios, this new system can accurately identify which vehicle is closest to the pickup location, helping drivers save fuel efficiently. G.Track also continuously updates the status, location, and speed of each vehicle and notifies the operations center of any emergencies as needed.
The system consists of several devices: G.Link, which is installed on the vehicle to collect data from satellites and send it back to the center via radio waves; G.Store, which updates and stores information about the vehicle’s status and route; G.Master, located at the operations center, is responsible for receiving and decoding data from vehicles with G.Link installed; G.Map – software that displays the map of the monitored area; and G.Control – software that uploads information received from G.Master into the database, searches through stored information, generates reports on vehicle status, and programs various parameters for G.Link…
Mr. Thuận noted that the G.Track system is applicable not only to cars but also to boats and trains. The system was completed in September 2005 and has been tested on digital maps provided by the Ho Chi Minh University of Technology.
