Weather satellite systems record above-average temperatures in Vietnam and several Asian countries.
Data recorded in Vietnam at 1 PM on April 23 (local time) from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) indicates that many areas experienced temperatures higher than normal, ranging from 1.5 to 4.6 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 9.7 degrees Celsius above average.
Temperatures recorded in various regions ranged between 31-35 degrees Celsius, with some areas even reaching 36 or 37 degrees Celsius. Neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand recorded temperatures ranging from 37 to 38 degrees Celsius or more.
At 1 PM on April 24 (local time), the southern region recorded temperatures mainly at 35-36 degrees Celsius and above. According to satellite data, the highest temperature recorded at that time was 37.8 degrees Celsius.
Not only Vietnam, but many countries in the region are also experiencing record heat waves, described as “the worst April heat wave in Asian history.” Data recorded by the Global Forecasting System (GFS) on April 24 shows that in Asia, some regions experienced temperatures up to 18.2 degrees Celsius above average.
In China, data recorded at 2 PM on April 24 (local time) showed temperatures reaching up to 42.2 degrees Celsius. Local media reported record temperatures for April in several locations, including Chengdu, Zhejiang, Nanjing, and Hangzhou…
The maximum temperature recorded in India on March 24 was 42.3 degrees Celsius. The April heat wave has devastated northern and eastern states of the populous country. Some states even had to close schools, and fatalities due to heatstroke were reported.
The temperature differential compared to average recorded in India during that time was 18.3 degrees Celsius.
The Philippines also experienced heat waves with some areas recording maximum temperatures of 41.1 degrees Celsius. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) advised citizens to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated during peak heat hours.
