A man has stirred up a social media frenzy after capturing footage of himself jumping into a river to rescue his pet dog from being drowned by a wild kangaroo.
According to the Daily Mail, in the video shared on social media with the caption “Martial arts for everyone, even for kangaroos”, viewers can see a dog being restrained by a kangaroo in the water.
The dog’s owner stands right in front, witnessing the entire incident. Unable to let his pet perish at the hands of the “stranger”, the man decides to jump in and save it.
The man’s beloved dog encounters trouble with the “stranger.”
In the video, viewers can hear the man yelling at the kangaroo: “I’m going to punch you in the head. Let my dog go.”
Moments later, the kangaroo lunges to attack the man with its sharp claws. The footage then turns black as the camera falls into the water.
The man dives in to “fight” to save his pet.
The audio cuts out before the footage reappears, showing the kangaroo standing tall in the river, facing the man. The dog has now been freed.
The man is seen splashing water at the kangaroo before returning to the shore. He continues to hurl insults at the “stranger” while it remains motionless.
After the scuffle, the man turns away, leaving the “stranger” standing still in the river.
Viewers of the video were left in suspense by the man’s daring actions to save his beloved dog. Many expressed support for his courageous act, with one user stating they would also “fight a kangaroo” for their pet if put in a similar situation.
International viewers appeared puzzled, questioning the encounter with a creature considered an icon of Australian culture and wildlife.
“Do kangaroos eat dogs? Why was it trying to choke the dog?”, asked a user named Letty Angeles.
Many noted that such scenes seem unique to Australia, the home of kangaroos.
People quickly recognized that dog attacks are not unusual in water, as kangaroos are known for their ability to submerge smaller animals tragically until they drown. Additionally, some netizens focused on the kangaroo’s massive muscles.
