After witnessing a figure in the palace of a Tibetan Lama, the Buddhist followers believed that his mummified body had come back to life and was walking around.
Lama Dashi Dorzho Itigilov is a monk known not only for his significant contributions to Tibetan Buddhist culture but also for the mysteries surrounding his mummified body. Although Lama Dashi Dorzho passed into Nirvana in 1927, for decades, followers have believed that he is still alive. Recently, evidence has emerged suggesting that Lama Dashi Dorzho has “returned to life” and is moving around his palace at the Ivolginsky Monastery, located 23 kilometers from the capital Ulan-Ude in the Republic of Buryatia, Siberia, Russia.
Surveillance footage shows a figure in the palace of Lama Dashi Dorzho.
Clips from the surveillance camera reveal a strange figure in the deserted palace at 8 PM on October 10 and 11. The figure appears to hover near the throne at times and near the sofa at others. Lama Damba Ayusheev, the president of the Traditional Buddhist Association, believes that this is Lama Dashi Dorzho in disguise, returning to pray for his followers.
However, skeptics argue that it could simply be the shadow of a security guard. They claim to have seen the figure wearing camouflage clothing and carrying two plastic bags.
In fact, this is not the first mystery surrounding the mummified body of Lama Dashi Dorzho. In September 2002, scientists and pathologists exhumed his body for examination. Strangely, his body remained intact. The muscles, flesh, joints, and skin were still soft as if he had just passed away three days prior.
It remains unclear what the truth of this story is, but it is certain that the mummified body of Lama Dashi Dorzho will continue to be an unsolvable mystery for scientists.
