Tiangong is described as the world’s first full-sized humanoid robot capable of operation solely through electric actuation. The robot was developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center.
Tiangong features an open-source framework that allows for extensive development and adaptation, making it suitable for a variety of applications. Through this robot, companies in the robotics sector and other scientific research entities can conduct direct studies on household services, manufacturing, and industrial applications tailored to market and user needs.
Standing at 1.63 meters tall and weighing 43 kilograms, Tiangong is equipped with numerous visual perception sensors and high-precision inertial measurement devices. It can process 550 trillion calculations per second. Additionally, the robot is outfitted with six-axis force sensors to provide accurate force feedback.
Tiangong is an open-source robot with strong development and adaptation capabilities.
During its launch event, Tiangong showcased its ability to adapt to complex environments while maintaining a stable running speed of 6 km/h. The robot easily navigates slopes and stairs, adjusting its gait as necessary.
As the center of the robotics industry in Beijing, the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area hosts 110 robotics companies, forming an industrial chain system that includes core components, complete machinery, and applications.
Tiangong was unveiled concurrently with several technological breakthroughs in AI revealed at the Zhongguancun Forum 2024, according to Seán Ó hÉigeartaigh, director at the Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies. “I am quite optimistic about the prospects of the Chinese AI industry. One of the things that China excels at is developing AI in a way that integrates into daily life, providing meaningful and useful tools for people,” he stated.
