On November 8, Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche officially agreed with the Ministry of Health of Vietnam to license the production of Tamiflu and committed that the manufacturing of this medication in Vietnam will commence in two months.
Currently, Vietnam has 57 companies that meet the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and are capable of producing Tamiflu. However, Roche will selectively choose certain Vietnamese companies that meet the necessary capacities and standards for production.
A representative from Roche also stated that the quantity of medication ordered by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam will be delivered in three phases: by the end of 2005, 2 million tablets; from January to June 30, 2006, 8 million tablets; and from July to December 2006, 15 million tablets.
