On June 15-16, in Ho Chi Minh City, over 300 Vietnamese ophthalmologists, along with many leading professors, doctors, and surgeons from the United States, Japan, and other countries in the region, participated in a scientific and technical ophthalmology workshop.
The workshop was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital and V-Tract, a subsidiary of Alcon Vietnam. Its purpose was to provide ophthalmologists with the opportunity to interact and exchange knowledge with their regional colleagues and top eye specialists from around the world. Participants aimed to update their knowledge and the latest techniques in treating eye diseases, ultimately enhancing the quality of care for ophthalmology patients in Vietnam.
During the workshop, attendees were introduced to and trained in the OZIL Torsional Phaco surgical technique using the Infiniti-TM system, which is effective for all types of cataract, particularly hard and very hard lenses, which are common in Vietnam.
This technique significantly reduces the surgery time for patients and minimizes complications caused by heat during the procedure. It also contributes to addressing the backlog of cataract cases in Vietnam, which is the leading cause of blindness, accounting for 66% of cases in the country, according to statistics from ORBIS.
