Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) computer monitors are no longer a “luxury” item for Vietnamese consumers. With just over 200 USD, you can purchase a quality monitor. The Vietnamese LCD market features over 10 brands from manufacturers around the world.
These include familiar names such as Samsung, ViewSonic, LG, Sony, BenQ, TCL, Philips, Motorola, Syncmaster, as well as DigiLife, Notek, Microtek, and Prolink…
There are many LCD products suitable for specific user groups, such as families, offices, or graphic design work. According to experts, it’s challenging to pinpoint quality differences among manufacturers. However, consumers should pay attention to several key points when purchasing an LCD monitor. Notably, it is essential to check for dead pixels on the screen. This is the most critical aspect because a dead pixel is a pixel that cannot display different colors. It stands out as a bright or dark spot on the screen, which can be frustrating for users. There are two types of dead pixels: always bright and always dark.
According to engineer Vu Tran Chi Tam, Head of the Testing Evaluation Department at ITConnect Consulting Center, to check for dead pixels, users should set their desktop background to solid black to identify always bright dead pixels (white) and switch to solid red to find always dark dead pixels. By technical standards, the number of dead pixels on an LCD monitor should be less than 4, which is acceptable for most manufacturers today. Dead pixels can appear on a completely new screen (due to manufacturing defects) or after a period of use. If the number of dead pixels exceeds this threshold, consumers are entitled to a replacement monitor during the warranty period. Additionally, the contrast ratio is another important factor because a higher contrast ratio enhances the sharpness of images displayed on the LCD monitor.
For current LCD monitors, the minimum resolution must be 300:1. Furthermore, standards regarding brightness, contrast, viewing angles (ideally 120 degrees horizontally and 100 degrees vertically), fast response times (less than 25 milliseconds), analog/digital interfaces, and optimal resolutions should also be considered. It is advisable not to touch the screen with hands or sharp objects; cleaning the display with harsh chemicals should be avoided, and it is best to use a damp cotton cloth for gentle cleaning. Avoid placing the monitor in direct sunlight and ensure it is not positioned in a confined space. There should be at least a 10 cm gap between the monitor and surrounding objects.
