Seagate Barracuda 750GB |
Seagate has taken a significant step towards pushing storage capacity to the Terabyte level with the launch of its 3.5-inch hard drive featuring a capacity of 750GB.
The Barracuda 750GB hard drive (7200 RPM) has been shipped to computer manufacturers and is expected to hit the market shortly. This new product utilizes “perpendicular recording” technology, which allows for increased data storage within a fixed space.
With this new technology, the storage capacity of the Seagate drive has reached a new record of 750GB. Until now, the largest available storage capacity was 500GB (from Seagate and Hitachi hard drives). The new product, officially named Barracuda 7200.10, is priced at $590.
According to the book “How Much Information” from the University of California, a capacity of 750GB is equivalent to the data contained in all the books that could fill 750 large trucks; or it is the same as the data produced from 37,500 trees used to make books.
