Many students at a school in Shanghai, China, witnessed a “pornographic library” when they typed the three letters representing the World Wide Web into Yahoo’s image search tool, despite the computers being set to a safe mode.
During an Internet lesson, the instructor noticed that both yahoo.com and yahoo.co.uk displayed numerous inappropriate images, including one depicting a car towing bloodied animal carcasses.
Ray Miles, a coordinator at the school, stated: “Pornographic images are certainly not what teachers expect to see when introducing students to the World Wide Web. Needless to say, we have banned students from accessing Yahoo’s website until the issue is resolved.”
The school has notified Yahoo about the incident. The world’s leading online service provider has acknowledged the problem and is requesting its technical team to promptly address the issue.
