Security is becoming increasingly important, to the extent that Intel has decided to integrate security technology into its latest microprocessor: Conroe.
In an effort to help computer manufacturers achieve the highest performance products with the Conroe microprocessor, Intel will package security technology directly into this chip.
Named Averill, this technology will be exclusively distributed to computer manufacturers such as Dell and HP. This technology package will also include features like Virtualization Technology, which enhances the utilization of hardware resources, and Active Management Technology, which significantly aids in enterprise network management, all integrated directly into the finished CPU.
When these technologies work together, they allow the system’s power to be greatly enhanced compared to purchasing individual components to build a computer with a standalone Conroe processor. Companies that buy “pre-built machines” will not only save energy but also benefit from better security tools and management functions.
Conroe is part of Intel’s 65-nm dual-core processor family. The company previously introduced it alongside the Merom and Woodcrest processors at IDC in March.
The hardening of support technologies is Intel’s new strategy to regain market share in microprocessors, particularly in terms of credibility with enterprise systems. If these hardened technologies prove their performance, the gap between assembled computers and pre-built systems, as understood in Vietnam, will become increasingly difficult to distinguish.
