African Gaboon Viper Can Have Fangs Up to 5cm Long.
Gaboon Viper (scientific name: Bitis gabonica) is known as one of the largest venomous snakes in the world, with an average weight of 7-10kg and a length of 1.8 meters (occasionally weighing up to 20kg).
Gaboon Vipers are extremely agile and very skilled at ambushing their prey.
In proportion to its size, it possesses fangs that can be up to 5cm long, capable of taking down large prey such as antelopes and wild boars…
However, it does not overlook smaller prey such as mice, rabbits, and various bird species.
Despite its somewhat oversized stature, the Gaboon Viper is incredibly agile and excels at ambushing its prey.
According to studies on this snake, it can leap up to 6 meters in just one second, capturing unsuspecting prey.
Unlike other venomous snakes, the Gaboon Viper typically bites down hard on its prey and does not let go until the prey is completely dead.
This allows it to inject a massive amount of venom, reaching approximately 2,400mg of dry venom and 9.7mg of liquid venom.
This amount of venom can kill most prey that it encounters. Notably, around 100mg of dry venom can be lethal to an adult human.
