Japanese electronics company Seiko Epson has developed an electronic paper (e-paper) display with a resolution of 1,536 x 2,048 pixels, reportedly the highest in the world today.
This display is the same size as A6 paper, with a diagonal measurement of 7.1 inches, and utilizes SUFTLA technology, which allows thin-film transistors (TFT) to move easily within a plastic substrate layer. Additionally, Seiko Epson’s product integrates a flexible memory chip that can bend along with the screen.
This high-resolution e-paper is partially based on technology from E Ink (USA). Last year, the Seiko Watch division also released a line of wristwatches featuring electronic paper displays, although they were smaller and did not support dynamic images like the new product.
E-paper is a research field that has garnered significant attention not only from display manufacturers. It is made from thin plastic sheets that can be folded and rolled up like newspapers and magazines. Furthermore, being electronic paper, it can update information in real-time and may even be used to display videos.
