The highly controversial and renowned domain name, considered to be the “most valuable on the planet“, has officially been transferred to Escom, a company based in Boston, USA, for a deal valued at $14 million.
Gary Kremen, the owner of Sex.com, did not provide any comments, and details of the transaction have yet to be disclosed.
The sale was facilitated by InternetRealEstate.com, which has previously been involved in major domain transactions including Beer.com for $7 million, Telephone.com for $2 million, Shop.com for $3.5 million, and other unique domains such as Computer.com, College.com, Diamond.com, Timeshares.com, and CreditCard.com.
Internet Real Estate emphasized that they have no relationship with the new owner of Sex.com. Escom aims to comprehensively update the website to establish it as a “completely new Sex.com“.
Kremen had been selective among potential buyers for the domain over the past year, as he plans to exit the “adult content” business.
The domain Sex.net is still managed by Kremen’s company, Grant Media.
