Dr. Trần Hữu Vinh from the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Traditional Medicine stated that green tea (fresh or dried leaves) is highly beneficial for human health. The tea has a bitter, astringent, slightly sweet taste, and a cooling nature, providing effects such as heat-clearing, thirst-quenching, aiding digestion, diuretic properties, cooling the skin, relieving dizziness, and reducing acne…
Fresh tea contains a significant amount of vitamin C and B2, which enhance immunity and combat aging. In addition to helping maintain mental alertness, studies in traditional medicine show that green tea reduces the risk of cancer (stomach, liver, and prostate).
Tea also helps limit the risk of cardiovascular diseases: angina, stroke; prevents hypertension, regulates blood sugar levels, kills influenza viruses, and supports weight loss.
Green tea contains compounds that can eliminate bacteria in the mouth, which are responsible for cavities and bad breath. Additionally, tea is an effective detoxifier. Drinking strong tea can reduce the effects of CO2 poisoning for coal workers or alcohol poisoning. Strong tea can also be used to wash wounds, burns, or ulcers effectively, aiding in faster healing.
While brewing tea may seem simple, it is important to know how to brew and consume it to retain its beneficial properties and avoid harming one’s health. Dr. Vinh suggests using clean water for brewing.
Many people, despite having consumed tea for years, still use water that is too hot to brew tea. This is a mistake because excessively hot water will make the tea cloudy and turn it yellow. It is best to boil water, turn off the heat, and let it cool for about 3 minutes before using it to brew tea.
It is advisable to drink tea in the morning or two hours after meals; drinking it in the evening may cause insomnia. Note that tea should not be consumed by individuals being treated for iron deficiency anemia. It is also advised to avoid consumption by pregnant women, those taking pain relief, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic medications, enzyme drugs, or tuberculosis medication…
