The ordinary refrigerator is becoming cramped. Many people are eyeing the “cold storage” (a term for side-by-side refrigerators) to bring home. This type of refrigerator is large, has many specialized compartments, and is extremely convenient for food preservation.
Just a year or two ago, electronic centers only showcased one or two side-by-side refrigerators as models, and it was rare to sell even one. Currently, the variety and number of these refrigerators in electronic centers have significantly increased. Consumers now have many options to choose their ideal refrigerator. Depending on the type and brand, these refrigerators have capacities ranging from over 500 liters to nearly 800 liters.
Many Conveniences
Most side-by-side refrigerators are designed with two large doors that open from the sides. Some models feature multiple separate cooling blocks, with additional doors and compartments specifically for ice-making, vegetables, and beverages, which can be accessed independently of the main doors.
With their large capacity, side-by-side refrigerators are equipped with numerous conveniences. First is the ice maker and water dispenser, allowing users to access ice and water from outside without opening the refrigerator. Some models include a separate small door specifically for storing canned and bottled drinks.
It is important to note that with these large-capacity refrigerators, whenever the main doors are opened, energy consumption increases significantly due to the loss of cold air. Therefore, these design features aim to save unnecessary energy loss for frequently used beverages and food items.
Modern Features
The majority of advanced technologies used in current refrigerator products are incorporated into side-by-side models. From continuous water supply for ice-making and cooling to automatic controls and adjustments via touch buttons displayed on an LCD screen, to advanced odor removal and sterilization functions. Many models allow humidity adjustment in the vegetable compartment and freezer to prevent food from drying out or getting “burned.”
Some models (like Panasonic refrigerators) have even changed their design by placing the freezer at the bottom and the vegetable compartment at the top to enhance user comfort. Surveys indicate that the ice compartment is used less frequently than the vegetable compartment. Therefore, relocating the vegetable compartment to the top helps users avoid bending down repeatedly.
Some models (like LG refrigerators) are designed with a built-in slim TV on the large door, featuring a 13-inch screen that can be controlled remotely, complete with an antenna connection, and a timer for power on/off. Others have an LCD screen that serves as an electronic notebook for taking notes, reminders, appointments, and work plans…
