The beauty of women does not only fade due to time and the gradual appearance of wrinkles, but is also deeply affected by changes in the facial bone structure. This is the result of a study conducted by American scientists.
Scientists have indicated that one of the main reasons women appear older than men at the same age is that women’s facial bones shrink earlier than those of men.
Dr. David Kahn, a member of the research team, stated: “Many of us believe that wrinkles on the face mainly arise from a serious personality or irritability in some individuals. However, we have identified two additional factors related to this phenomenon: changes in facial bone structure and the reduction of facial fat with age.
Along with the aging process, the amount of fat in our faces gradually decreases, and additionally, the facial bone structure changes, causing us to look older than we might expect.”
In their study, Dr. Kahn and his colleagues analyzed computed tomography scans of 30 women and 30 men aged between 25 and over 65. The results revealed that as these individuals aged, their facial bones showed signs of degradation and shrinkage, creating small gaps. At this point, the skin’s elasticity also decreases, making it unable to “fill in” these gaps, leading to the inevitable appearance of wrinkles.
Dr. Kahn further explained that the fact that changes in facial bones occur earlier in women than in men accounts for why women tend to seek facial skincare products at a younger age than men. The use of cosmetics combined with certain surgical techniques can help women compensate for the “deficits” left by changes in bone structure. Moreover, the skin will also develop better under the influence of cosmetics. In summary, we, especially women, need to adopt a different perspective on the causes of facial wrinkles to find more effective ways to “combat” them.
