Mr. Nguyễn Tử Trí, director of Phương Đức Asia Company, has recently developed an energy-saving device for air conditioners that can reduce electricity consumption by up to 50%.

He explained that he utilized programming principles to control the device, allowing the air conditioner to operate efficiently: alternating between running and resting while maintaining suitable humidity levels. “I have been developing this for over a year, adjusting it step by step until the device was perfected,” Mr. Trí shared.
According to his calculations, the device can save electricity when using an air conditioner: 20% during the day and up to 50% at night. The device has been tested in two locations: one at the home of Mr. Lê Quang Vũ (Huỳnh Tấn Phát, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) and another at the Energy Saving Center (Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City).
After one month of usage, Mr. Lê Quang Vũ’s family (who used the device with a 750W air conditioner, typically set at 26 degrees Celsius and operating from 8:30 PM every night) commented: “The device operates according to a pre-set program, alternating between running and resting; notably, after 11:30 PM each night, it adjusts the air conditioner to primarily run in fan mode.” Their electricity consumption: in previous months averaged 280,000 VND/month; after installing the device, their bill for October 2005 was 195,000 VND (a reduction of about 30%).
The test sample from the Energy Saving Center was applied to a two-block National air conditioner, with a power capacity of 2Hp and cooling capacity of 18,000 BTU/h.
The center conducted a comparison of results between the scenarios with and without the energy-saving device (measuring time: one day and night for each case with equal cooling load). The results showed that while the electricity savings during the day were negligible, at night (from 6 PM to midnight), savings were 26%; (from midnight to 8:30 AM) savings reached 83%.
Mr. Phạm Duy Phong, head of the technical department at the Energy Saving Center, evaluated: “The device offers significant electricity savings, especially at night, making it suitable for individual air conditioners, particularly older models.”
