Witnessing a cobra regurgitating six eggs, many were left astonished. This unbelievable scene was recorded in Similipal National Park, Odisha, India.
Swallowing too many eggs at once caused the cobra to regurgitate.
In the clip, a cobra is “laying eggs” in broad daylight. Interestingly, this cobra is laying eggs through its mouth. After some writhing, each egg fell out of the snake’s mouth.
In reality, this is not the birthing process of cobras, as this activity resembles that of most other snake species. The continuous regurgitation of six eggs is a consequence of the gluttonous behavior of this species, specifically the cobra in the clip.
Normally, cobras consume a few eggs, using their bodies to crush them and absorb the nutrients inside, then regurgitating the shells since their stomachs cannot digest them. However, due to swallowing too many eggs at once, this cobra could not handle it and had to regurgitate.
Nevertheless, the cobra was still able to retain at least one egg in its body to ensure it remains sufficiently nourished for a short period.
The reason cobras can swallow eggs larger than their own heads is due to the remarkably flexible structure of their jaws, allowing them to consume prey many times their size.
