Engineer Phan Tri Dung, Chairman of the Board of the New Technology Research Center in Ho Chi Minh City, announced that the center has just produced a solar-powered water purification machine.
The NCT-01 machine consists of a parabolic mirror system with a diameter of 1.5 meters, a water storage container (for saline or contaminated water), a condenser, and an activated carbon box to filter the water. The mirrors automatically rotate to track the sun, generating energy to heat the water. The steam passes through a spiral condenser to produce fresh water, with an average of 10 liters of saline water yielding 7 liters of fresh water.
In cases of using contaminated water, the machine includes an additional activated carbon unit to produce purified water.
After its development, the machine has been tested in Lam Dong and Binh Thuan, regions that face significant freshwater shortages during the dry season.
