The Institute of Construction Science and Technology (Ministry of Construction) has researched and developed a waterproof paint called Polyme – Victalastic. Although it is newly available in the market, the product is evaluated as having good quality and competitive pricing.
The Polyme – Victalastic waterproof cement paint creates a sealing membrane when applied to surfaces, effectively preventing water infiltration. Victalastic is primarily used for waterproofing interior and exterior surfaces such as basements, potable water tanks, wastewater tanks, flat roofs, sloped roofs, exterior walls of residential buildings, as well as bathrooms and kitchens.
The key characteristic of Victalastic waterproof paint is its two-component system, which consists of a liquid polymer and a pre-mixed powder, made from imported synthetic polymers, cement, and other selected material components. Victalastic has excellent adhesion to most construction products and can bond well to damp surfaces (without standing water), facilitating easy and quick application.
Once dry, Victalastic forms a sealing membrane that is flexible enough to withstand cracks up to 0.2 mm. Environmental laboratory tests show that once the membrane is formed, Victalastic is very durable and does not produce harmful components for drinking water. Therefore, Victalastic is suitable for effective waterproofing in drinking water tanks.
According to experts from the Concrete Department of the Institute of Construction Science and Technology, for the Victalastic waterproof paint to achieve optimal effectiveness, the preparation process before application is particularly important. Hence, the surface must be cleaned of oil, cement mortar, and dust, and it should be saturated with clean water before applying Victalastic. Afterward, use a low-speed electric mixer (600 RPM) with a paddle blade to mix the components evenly. Initially, pour about two-thirds of the milky-white liquid component into a clean container, turn on the mixer, and gradually add the powder component to avoid clumping. Mix for at least 3 minutes to achieve a homogeneous mixture.
During the application process, ensure that the working area is free from direct sunlight and wind exposure to the recently applied Victalastic to prevent rapid drying of the Victalastic membrane. For vertical surfaces, the total thickness of the Victalastic membrane should reach 1-2 mm, while for horizontal surfaces, it should reach 1-3 mm.
Additionally, to optimize the waterproofing capability of the product, with the aforementioned membrane thickness, it is recommended to apply at least two coats, with the second coat applied about 10-12 hours after the first. The entire Victalastic mixture should be used within 90 minutes after mixing the two components.
The Polyme – Victalastic waterproof cement paint has been utilized in several construction projects in Vietnam and has quickly gained the satisfaction of investors. These include the basement and restroom areas of the Vimeco – Vinaconex building, waterproofing for the basement and restroom areas of the National Convention Center (35 Hung Vuong), and the Electronic Transaction and Software Center in Hanoi…
