VoIP is increasingly supported by hardware manufacturers with a variety of products integrating VoIP functions. Following the recent collaboration between D-Link and Netgear with Skype, Sony has now introduced the “Talking Mouse” that integrates VoIP technology.
The Sony “Talking Mouse” resembles a typical computer mouse, complete with a scroll wheel. However, when opened, it transforms into a phone shape, allowing users to utilize the “Talking Mouse” as a standard VoIP phone. In this mode, the scroll wheel functions as a volume control button.
When a user receives a call, sound will play through the computer, and an LED light on the mouse will illuminate to signal the call. The “Talking Mouse” also features noise cancellation to enhance call quality. Once the call is finished, users can simply close the device and continue using it as a regular computer mouse.
Weighing 67 grams with dimensions of 45.5×23.9×89.2mm (when closed) and a resolution of 800 dpi, it connects via USB/USB 2.0 and is compatible only with Windows 2000/XP. The “Talking Mouse” will be available in the Japanese market at a price of $65 starting February 18, offered in five colors: white, red, green, blue, and black.
