Excessive salivation at night is a common symptom in both children and adults. This is a medical condition often caused by disorders of the salivary glands and is related to neurological factors.

Stimuli that excite the salivary glands can arise from various causes, such as consuming overly spicy and hot foods, having a heavy dinner, experiencing stress while sleeping accompanied by bruxism (teeth grinding), poor digestive health, gastritis or stomach ulcers, irregular sleep patterns, and anxiety states…
If the condition of excessive salivation during sleep persists, it is advisable to consult a specialist in endocrinology or gastroenterology for a more accurate diagnosis and treatment. Medications that reduce saliva production, such as atropine, can temporarily halt salivation, but these drugs are only used in specific cases for oral surgical procedures and are effective for a short duration.
To temporarily alleviate excessive salivation, you may reduce the intake of spicy foods, avoid chewing gum to prevent increased saliva production, and refrain from eating heavily before bedtime.
