South Korea is racing against time to introduce network-connected robots into every household in the country.
After successfully bringing broadband internet to 72% of households nationwide over the past five years, the government has gathered a team of 100 scientists from universities and research institutes, as well as entrepreneurs from over 30 companies, to help integrate robots as official members of society.
Next year, these intelligent robots—capable of sending messages to parents, teaching children English, and entertaining them with songs and dances—will be mass-produced. Furthermore, these robots can assist customers at post offices or patrol public areas by searching for intruders and sending images back to control centers. The Ministry of Information Technology in South Korea predicts that robots will be present in all households by 2015-2020.
