Industrial emissions contribute to air pollution (Photo: VNN) |
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), major cities in Southeast Asia and China experience the highest levels of air pollution in the world, claiming approximately 500,000 lives each year.
Research conducted by the WHO in Southeast Asia and China indicates that emissions from transportation, industrial facilities, and the use of wood, coal, and other fuels for domestic purposes have led to persistently high levels of air pollution in these regions.
The WHO calls on governments in these countries to urgently implement long-term solutions to address this issue.
As the air pollution index rises, the number of deaths from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases also increases, while the life expectancy of those living in heavily polluted cities decreases.
