An 18-Year-Old Girl in China Diagnosed with “Lovesickness” Due to Extreme Behavior Toward Her Boyfriend.
Recently, Yueniu News reported on the case of Xiaoyu, an 18-year-old girl from Sichuan Province. She became so “obsessed” with her boyfriend that their lives turned into a nightmare.

Xiaoyu’s alarming behavior began in her first year of university when she started dating an unnamed boy. According to Du Na, a doctor at the Fourth People’s Hospital in Chengdu, Xiaoyu has an unusual obsession with her boyfriend, constantly wanting to know his whereabouts and becoming frantic if he doesn’t reply to her messages immediately. While this may sound like typical controlling behavior, Dr. Du Na points out that Xiaoyu is suffering from a rare mental disorder known as “lovesickness.”
Dr. Du Na further revealed that there were days when Xiaoyu called her boyfriend over 100 times. She became so angry when he didn’t answer the phone that she destroyed all the furniture in their shared apartment. When Xiaoyu’s boyfriend returned home and saw the chaos, he had to call the police, who arrived just as she threatened to jump off the balcony.
Xiaoyu was eventually subdued and taken to the hospital. There, she was diagnosed with a personality disorder commonly referred to as “lovesickness.”
Dr. Du Na stated that individuals with mild cases can often recover and lead normal lives simply by learning to control their emotions, but in severe cases like Xiaoyu’s, medical intervention is necessary.
Although Dr. Du Na could not pinpoint the exact cause of Xiaoyu’s condition, he mentioned that this disorder is often diagnosed in individuals who grew up without parental love.
Xiaoyu’s story has gone viral on Chinese social media, sparking a heated debate about mental health and the stigma surrounding this condition.
“The term ‘lovesickness’ sounds terrifying,” commented one user on Douyin.
“Could I have ‘lovesickness’? I feel like I exhibit similar behaviors,” another user pondered.
