In August, a strange luminous phenomenon appeared in the sky over Yunnan Province, China, resembling a seven-colored rainbow tower sitting on a black cloud.
The official Facebook page of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) shared a photograph taken by photographer Jiaqi Sun, along with an explanation of the phenomenon, which relates to water droplets and light dispersion.
The image of the strange seven-colored halo in China was posted on NASA’s Facebook page.
The NASA post garnered over 62,000 reactions and 1,400 comments, with many expressing skepticism about whether this was a natural occurrence or a coincidence.
Several hypotheses were proposed, including: a blast, the accumulation of toxic chemicals, or a 3D imaging test program conducted by the Chinese government.
However, the majority suspected it was a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object), believing that the government might be concealing information.
“It could be an artificial substance used to cover up advanced military technology, or extraterrestrial,” one commenter noted.
“Isn’t it strange? In my entire life, I’ve never seen or heard of anything like this,” another wrote.
The NASA Facebook page did not comment on the hypotheses but provided a more detailed explanation of the phenomenon they referred to as “iridescent cloud,” while also acknowledging that this is an unusual event.
“Above the black cloud is an iridescent cloud, formed from water droplets of uniform size that diffract different colors of sunlight,” NASA analyzed.
“This photo also shows unusual cloud ripples on the iridescent cloud. The formation of a rare cloud mass on top of another cloud indicates that the lower cloud is expanding upward and may develop into a storm,” NASA explained.
