A moment captured by a passenger shows a strange image of an airplane surrounded by a seven-colored halo while flying.
The clip was recorded by photographer Rich Cruse while on a flight over Portland, Oregon (USA).
In the video, the airplane is surrounded by a seven-colored halo resembling a rainbow, making it appear as a glowing jewel in a sky filled with white clouds. This clip later attracted a lot of attention from viewers.
This phenomenon is known as Pilot’s Glory, also referred to as “the pilot’s halo.” It is an extremely rare occurrence in everyday life.
This phenomenon is indeed very rare.
Scientists explain that this halo is created by backscattering of light, resulting from light reflecting at a certain angle through tiny water droplets in the air (which are invisible to the naked eye).
The size of the halo depends on various factors such as the wavelength of light, the average diameter of the water droplets, and their distribution. To see this halo, viewers must stand directly between the light source and the water droplets, which is why these halos often surround shadows created by that light source.
