Mothers Experiencing Stress Triple the Risk of Type 1 Diabetes in Their Children
According to a study conducted by experts at Linköping University in Sweden, mothers who experience stress significantly increase the risk of their children developing Type 1 diabetes by three times.
The researchers studied over 6,000 children, all just two and a half years old, along with their families. Many of these mothers had recently gone through divorce or had experienced domestic abuse. The experts explained that when a mother is under stress, her young child is also at risk of experiencing stress, which adversely affects insulin-producing cells – the primary cause of Type 1 diabetes. The researchers also emphasized the importance of addressing stress levels in children and highlighted the need to consider the psychological well-being of parents when treating diabetes in children.
