The device is called the Coroco Meter (loosely translated as “Soul Meter” in Japanese), but in reality, it is a tool that allows users to regularly check their levels of anxiety and stress.
It is a unique invention by Professor Masaki Yamaguchi from Toyama University and the Japanese company Nipro, which measures an individual’s stress levels simply by analyzing saliva.
The Coroco Meter weighs only 190 grams (as shown in the image) and features a clear display that indicates the stress level based on the amount of amylase (or amylase enzyme) found in the saliva. To take a measurement, users place a test stick in their mouth to collect saliva, insert the stick into the meter, and wait one minute for the results. The device is priced at $167, not including a pack of 20 test sticks, which costs an additional $29.
