A powerful telescope was inaugurated on April 12 at Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA. This telescope is designed to capture potential light signals sent to Earth by extraterrestrial beings.
This is the first telescope developed specifically to search for light pulses in the sky emitted by aliens, and it can observe 100,000 times more of the sky than current telescopes are capable of.
Bruce Betts, project director at Planetary, the company funding the telescope’s development, stated: ”Sending laser signals across the universe could be a very reasonable method for extraterrestrial beings to communicate, but until now, we have been poorly equipped to capture any such signals.”
This telescope has the capability to detect flashes within a billionth of a second and costs up to $550,000.
