Taipei City is expected to have around 200,000 Internet phone users by the end of this year. This is considered a significantly cheaper alternative to traditional mobile services.
“This is the world’s first Internet phone system utilizing an entire city, rather than just hotspot points, to create an overall wireless environment“, stated Daniel Wong, spokesperson for the Taipei Computer Association.
By the end of August, hundreds of middle and high schools will be equipped with the Internet phone system, and approximately 400,000 students, parents, and teachers will be encouraged to use the new system as part of the “Taipei Easy Call” initiative.
Daniel Wong mentioned that 10 companies will participate in this ambitious initiative aimed at establishing a solid foundation for widespread Internet usage and wireless communication.
“If successful, this model could be replicated in any city around the world. This also means creating business opportunities for Taiwanese information technology companies“, Daniel Wong remarked.
