Italian Scientists Develop the Fastest Nano-Engine Ever Created
Researchers in Italy have successfully created the fastest nano-engine to date.
A nano-engine is an extremely small molecular engine designed to transport therapeutic drugs directly to cells within the body.
This latest and fastest nano-engine has been named Sunny, which is derived from the term “sunlight,” as it operates using solar energy. Compared to the only environmentally friendly nano-engine currently in use, designed by Dutch scientists, this new nano-engine can achieve speeds up to one million times faster.
The creator of Sunny, Vincenzo Balzani from the University of Bologna, stated that molecular engines can be utilized to deliver drugs to cells and may also pave the way for future chemical computing. “These are innovative ideas, and the potential applications of this type of engine in fields we have yet to consider are immense,” he remarked.
Nano-technology is a specialized field focused on designing structures smaller than 100 nanometers (1 nanometer = 1/1,000,000 millimeters).
