This is the case of patient Đỗ Thị Hoa (30 years old, from Nam Phong, Phú Xuyên, Hà Tây). Before giving birth, patient Hoa suffered from a congenital uterine anomaly (the patient had a double-horned uterus, while a normal uterus has only one chamber), which led to multiple miscarriages during her pregnancies.
In 2005, doctors at the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital performed a reconstructive surgery on Ms. Hoa, cutting the uterine septum to transform her uterus back into a single chamber, as is normal. After the surgery, Ms. Hoa became pregnant. On February 5, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 2.9 kg.
On February 14, Dr. Nguyễn Viết Tiến, Director of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, stated, “Those with uterine anomalies can still conceive multiple times after undergoing uterine reconstruction. Patient Đỗ Thị Hoa is the second case to give birth following uterine reconstruction at the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Currently, there is another patient from Hải Phòng who is 7 weeks pregnant after having her uterus reconstructed by our doctors.“
The cost for a uterine reconstruction surgery is approximately 1 million VND.
