Sun Microsystems Inc. is set to announce the Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5 software development kit and a compatibility testing package for developers at the upcoming JavaOne conference on May 11.
In previous statements regarding its server software development platform, Sun has emphasized improvements in usability (making it easier to use) and the integration of new technologies for the Java EE 5 platform.
According to Joe Keller, Vice President of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Integration Platforms at Sun, the specifications for Java EE 5 were approved by the Java Community Process (the body responsible for Java standards) over the weekend. This decision paves the way for the announcement of the Java EE 5 SDK and the compatibility testing suite (CTS) at the upcoming JavaOne conference in San Francisco, scheduled from May 16-19.
Mr. Keller also stated that Java EE 5 represents the most significant upgrade to Java in the past five years.
