Sun Microsystems has just released a beta version of Java Enterprise Edition 5 (JEE5), providing developers with a new programming model and tools to build Java applications faster and more easily.
Java EE 5 will enhance support for a range of new technologies, simplifying the process of creating web application interfaces and improving web services. Java EE 5 also includes essential code snippets for application development.
To support the new JEE5 platform, Sun Microsystems has been releasing a series of supporting tools, such as the NetBeans 5.5 Enterprise Pack Preview—software that integrates Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools and design tools aimed at service-oriented architecture (SOA) developers.
Additionally, this week, Sun announced the beta version of Java System Application Server PE 9.0, built on the technology of the open-source Java EE 5 application server project, GlassFish.
Sun plans to finalize Java EE 5 this summer. Last week, Sun also announced the beta version of the Java Platform Standard Edition (codenamed “Mustang”).
