On November 24, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Yen Province, Dao Tan Loc, and the Ambassador of Belgium to Vietnam, Ph. Giotat, signed an agreement for the project to improve sanitation conditions and protect the environment in Tuy Hoa City, funded by the Belgian government.
According to the agreement, the project will be implemented over three years (2006-2008) to help Tuy Hoa City establish a sanitary waste treatment area aimed at improving environmental conditions and public health for its residents.
The project will also enhance the management capacity of the local solid waste management company in waste collection and treatment; simultaneously, it will raise community awareness and increase public participation in efforts to improve sanitation conditions and protect the environment.
The total budget for the project is 3.3 million euros, with 60% funded by the Belgian government; 20% comes from a co-financing fund established based on the debt relief provided by the Belgian government to Vietnam in 2000, and the remaining 20% is contributed by the Vietnamese side.
