The conjoined twin girls from India, Saba and Farah, aged 10, may soon undergo separation surgery in the United States.
Currently, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson is conducting thorough assessments to determine whether the surgery should proceed. The twins share both arteries and cerebral blood vessels. Furthermore, one of the girls has a complete set of kidneys, while the other is missing one. According to doctors, the most challenging aspect of the surgery will be the separation of the brain, particularly the division of the cerebral circulation system. The entire cost of the surgery will be covered by Crown Prince Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). Statistics indicate that the survival rate for conjoined twins after birth is very low, with only a few cases among every 200,000 births. Among the pairs born, approximately 60% do not survive more than a few hours post-delivery.
