In some individuals, there is a phenomenon of excessive sweating in all areas of the skin that have sweat glands, most notably in the armpits, palms, soles of the feet, neck, and face. Most cases have no identifiable cause and typically begin during puberty, concluding between the ages of 25 and 35.
A small number of cases have clear causes, such as hot weather, intense physical activity, fever due to infection, hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, neurological disorders, or situations where the patient is anxious (fear of sweating).
Therefore, to treat this condition, you should undergo a general health check-up at medical facilities so that doctors can examine you and conduct necessary tests to identify the underlying cause, such as blood glucose testing and thyroid function tests… only then can effective treatment be pursued.
If no cause is found, treatment may include methods such as:
– Wearing loose, breathable clothing made from cotton to facilitate sweat absorption.
– Maintaining a well-ventilated and cool working environment.
– Regular use of antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride and aluminum hydrochloride.
– Using anticholinergic medications.
– Endoscopic sympathectomy (this surgery is performed at Gia Dinh People’s Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital, Trung Vuong Hospital, and University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital).
– A newer method involves injecting Botox into the sympathetic ganglia to paralyze them, preventing sweat production. This method is quite effective and simple but can be expensive and only lasts for 6 to 9 months, making it suitable for individuals in occupations such as diplomacy, where they frequently interact with others, or in precision jobs like electronics and jewelry making.
