Computer Associates (CA) has recently introduced the Identity Manager program, a user identity and access management technology acquired from Netegrity (USA), aimed at recovering forgotten passwords on desktops.
One of the features of CA Identity Manager is the “self-service” password management capability. If users forget their passwords, they can reset them as long as they remember the answer to a secret question. This method is based on the graphical identification and authentication technology GINA integrated into Windows.
CA estimates that currently, one out of every five calls to the IT support office is related to password recovery requests. A recent study by Burton Group (USA) also indicated that, on average, each person spends about $25 – $50 on support calls, meaning businesses could significantly save costs if they reduce the volume of such calls.
CA Identity Manager, utilizing the company’s integrated platform to streamline large-scale security management, was showcased at the CA World conference held in Las Vegas on November 16.
