A massive, soft, white web covering the trees around a park near her home left a 34-year-old woman in England utterly astonished.
Sarah Longfellow, 34, who lives in Castleford, West Yorkshire, was shocked to wake up one morning and find large patches of white webs enveloping many trees and fences around her house.
Giant webs covering a park in England.
Initially, Sarah thought that the trees in the park might be sick or that some strings or fake snow had fallen. However, upon closer inspection, she was stunned to realize that these were indeed large, smooth white webs.
As someone who is very afraid of spiders, this sight was a nightmare for Sarah. The horror didn’t stop there as she discovered a swarm of caterpillars wriggling within the web.
Sarah Longfellow stated: “The scene was so frightening, it felt like Halloween had come early. I was startled to find out that it was fine white webbing. In contrast to my fear, my 3-year-old son was fascinated by this rare sight. The caterpillars trapped inside looked scarier but also more intriguing.”
These are not spider webs but just caterpillars.
Previously, Sarah and her son had noticed large webs scattered on their way to school but didn’t expect to find them so close to home.
Feeling calmer after sharing images on social media and receiving support from the online community, she was relieved to learn that these were not spider webs but merely caterpillars, which are non-toxic and completely harmless to humans.
As hundreds of these eggs hatch into caterpillars, they will work together to create their own territory by spinning webs to form a massive network. These webs serve as a protective screen against external threats, and the caterpillars will remain within the web throughout their development.
